The 1805 Baker Rifle by Davide Pedersoli is a crafted reproduction of one of the most important military firearms of the early 19th century. Originally adopted by the British Army, the Baker rifle holds a unique place in firearms and military history as the first rifled flintlock issued for regular military service.

Introduced during the Napoleonic Wars, the Baker rifle represented a significant departure from the smoothbore muskets that dominated European battlefields. Its rifled barrel provided improved accuracy and extended effective range, making it ideally suited for elite rifle units tasked with skirmishing, reconnaissance, and targeted fire. In the hands of trained riflemen, the Baker proved its worth across multiple campaigns and earned a reputation for durability and battlefield effectiveness.

Today, original Baker rifles are exceedingly rare and command extremely high prices when they appear on the collector market. This scarcity, combined with sustained interest from reenactors and historical shooters, has made a faithful reproduction one of the most requested firearms in Pedersoli’s catalog.

At the heart of the rifle is Pedersoli’s PMG (Premium Match Grade) barrel, machined from solid steel and broach-rifled for consistency and accuracy. The rifling profile is faithfully reproduced to match original specifications, a feature that has been highly requested by collectors and shooters alike. The barrel features a .625” caliber, a 1:120” twist rate, and seven grooves, closely mirroring period examples and ensuring authentic shooting characteristics.
The rifle is stocked in walnut, shaped to reflect the lines and proportions of original Baker rifles, and fitted with brass furniture consistent with period construction. These materials provide both durability and an authentic appearance that appeals to collectors and reenactors focused on historical correctness.

To further support authentic shooting, a dedicated mold block for .620” round balls will also be available at the start of the rifle deliveries, allowing shooters to produce ammunition matched specifically to the Baker’s barrel dimensions.
